i know this has been discussed before but i wanted to ask again because people get better.

i went to the track friday can and cut some horrible times. i was just wondering how everyone is launching because i cant get traction in first for didly poop.

    here is my best time

    14.426 @ 97 mph
2.2 60ft, i got the time slip somewhere, ill post the numbers when i find it in the car.

i know my motormounts and tires are probally not helping. mounts are crapped out, and tires are new hancooks performance tires.

i had the tire pressure at 22psi, launched at 4,000 and feathered the clutch and rode the accel till i grabbed then got in it. i also shifted out at 7200, when i went to 8500 i cut a 14.6 but that could just be traction all over again.

btw MVM JIM, when is a good time for me to go up there and get my 3step and hondata button activated, i wanna also get some tuning in. since my belt stays on now.

Sorry for the long answer but there is no short answer for your question.

    1. In my experience consistent 2.2 second 60ft times on street tires are average and decent.

    2. It takes R compound street tires to achieve a 2 flat and slicks to get sub 2 second launches. I am not saying it's not achievable to do better, but just not repeatable unless you have some assistance with traction control devices (ie. LSD)

    3. My best 60ft and 1/4 mile times on street tires were achieved by launching at 4000rpm, dumping the clutch, BUT NO BOOST until AFTER my shift into second gear. On my car to launch at 0psi or zero vacuum is 3/4 throttle. Fast enough to keep it from bogging and slow enought to keep traction. First gear goes by so fast it doesn't matter how much power you are making but how much power your tires can take. Pro drag racers will tell you the perfect launch ratio is 10% tire spin out of the hole.

    4. More food for thought: I also found that going below 24psi on street tires helped the launch but slowed me down in the traps negating any gains out of the whole. Keeping my street tires around 28-31psi (temp dependant) gave me more consistent runs.

    5. Try launching at different RPMs in 1000rpm increments until you find the fastest time. Then try different clutch/gas pedal techniques until you find the fastest time. Then try different tire psi setting in 2psi increments until you find the fastest setting. See a trend here? Only change one variable at a time.

    6. The easy solution (price no option) is to increase your gear ratio and get some R compound tires...

    Good luck,

    i had 14" nitto 555r's tire pressure at 22psi. i would side step the clutch at 3,000rpm. that got me 2.0 60ft's and 12.80's @ 113

yea, from a 40 kick i can outrun cars that usually run mid 13's. so i must be having bad traction problems or something, im just narrowing out my problems. im leaving to oregon so i wont have any time to run on the track, i doubt theres is open in the winter, so i guess i gotta wait till next year.
